The RivahFest Idol Contest opens at 2 PM and runs to 3:30 PM. RivahFest Idol Headquarters is located at St. Margaret's School Stage 2 (in front of St. Margaret's Hall) on Water Lane. The first prize is $500 awarded by Riverside Tappahannock Hospital and sponsors Peninsula Health Care and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. The winner will be invited to perform an encore on the main stage between performances mid afternoon.
The preliminaries will be held on May 30th and 31st at the Riverside Tappahannock Hospital in Tappahannock, VA. Each participant will have a parent or legal guardian sign a release form before competing.
At the preliminaries, the participant will be asked to perform one song for up to 2 minutes. The song will be performed with no musical accompaniment. Three judges will rate each participant on a weighted scale on each of the following criteria; song selection, talent, star quality and overall performance. Each judge will grade separately and will not base their judgments on the opinions of the other judges. The participant will not be informed of their score after their performance. ALL OF THE JUDGES’ DECISIONS WILL BE FINAL.
The score sheet will be tabulated by an independent party. These individuals will not be present during the performances. There are ten (10) slots available for the finals. Once all of the tabulations have been completed and the finalists have been chosen, only the finalists will be called to be informed on the decision.
Finalists will perform at Rivahfest on the 2nd stage in front of St. Margaret’s Hall on Water Lane at 2:00pm. The finalists will be asked to perform one (1) song not to exceed 5 minutes in length. The finalists will provide musical accompaniment on tape or CD format. The finalists will have to provide RivahFest Idol with an instrumental copy of the song they wish to perform. The top two finalists will be asked to perform on the Main Stage at the intersection of Water Lane and Prince Street during the break of the Steve Bassett, Ammon Tharpe with the Mystic Soul Bubbas band, approx. 5:30pm. The finalists will not be allowed to “sing along” with vocals prior to June 18. The officials reserve the right to reject any song if they believe that the subject material is deemed offensive.
The final decision to the winner of RivahFest Idol will be made by the judges as a group. ALL DECISIONS MADE BY THE JUDGES WILL BE FINAL. The winner will be announced at the conclusion of the event.
Any situations that occur that are not covered by the “Rules of Rivahfest Idol” will be made by the directors of Rivahfest Idol within thirty (30) minutes of the situation being brought to their attention. The directors have the final decision on all matters concerning this contest. All questions about the rules should be directed to Liz Martin 804-443-6189 at Riverside Tappahannock Hospital in Tappahannock.
Any contestant found in violation of the rules will be disqualified.
